My wife Nicky and I spent some very enjoyable days in Beziers when planning the Rugby World Cup 91. The rugby people were tremendous hosts. We have stories to tell. Wonderfully written Chris - fascinating. The Hemingway references painted a mental picture - two of my favourites.

Thanks Nigel...I've been following your epicurean crusade to the great wine properties of la belle France with envy. You and Nicky could have fitted so easily into the cast of characters I encountered in the Languedoc.

well done again, Chris, just Sauclieres was the name of the old Beziers stadium and did you know that beziers players were not really friends and that Esteve never spoke directly to Barrière and that he only call him "L'autre con". Richard Astre who was their go between, and Esteve would the him" go, tell l'autre con that i dont like this in the line out or that..."

"You have to love each others to win" is a stupid French romantic saying. For ten years Beziers prove it the others way round"

Take Care
